I wanted to make FRENCH macarons (not the coconut macaroons)
I was watching a tutorial on youtube, and the chef put almonds and sugar in a food processor.
I don’t have a food processor or any money to buy one, but I have a blender, and I was wondering if it would be ok just to use that instead.
Here’s the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNZG0jm0nW8
If not, why?
I hate to disagree with everybody, but you can use a blender to chop the nuts with sugar. You just have watch it carefully so it doesn’t turn it into almond butter. Since all said no., I had to check it out. The following paragraph was cut and pasted from: http://startcooking.com/blog/537/How-to–Nuts and there were quite a few other site that said you can use a blender.
Another way to chop or grind nuts is to put them in the blender or food processor in small batches. Pulse (turn the machine on and off quickly) several times until the nuts are the desired size. This is a fast way to get the job done, but may result in uneven chopping.
NOPEEEEEEEEEE NEEEEEEEEEEPOOOOOOOOOO
No i belive not
no i wouldnt think so, blender is just to blend things and a food processor cuts through food and breaks them down, sorry
It depends on the quality of your blender and if the blades can be switched around. Food processors have a more powerful blade because they’re designed to break down harder, dryer foods, whereas blenders perform best with liquids. Cleaning out your blender could be challenging after blending dry ingredients too, because the blade is set higher up off the base of the jug, so whatever you put in there that needs to be spooned out may get trapped in the pocket under there. You can always grind up the almonds yourself using a mortar and pestle, or place them in a paper bag and use the flat side of a meat mallet to crush them up.
