Yes you can unless you are making something like dough. Just use the different settings – chop, dice, etc. and the pulse button. Before I was given my food processor, I used my Osterizer Blender all the time like one.

Sometimes you can, but usually not. Blenders only work well if there is lots of liquid and you want a thin, fine puree (not chopped).
