Ideas for a new food processor and blender?

August 31st, 2010

I got a food processor/blender combo for Christmas, and I haven’t unpacked it yet because I’m moving soon. But as soon as I’m settled in at the new place, I can’t wait to crack it out and start using it. I’m thinking my first preparation might be cheesecake…but I want to make lots of stuff for my house mates! Any good recipes for soups/desserts/vegetarian burgers/anything that can be prepared using a food processor? (No meat products thanks, I’m a vegetarian.)

I make veggie soup using mine, in two ways:
    Reg. chunky veggie soup
    1 med onion
    2 cloves garlic
    5 stalks celery
    5 carrots
    2 big cans veggie broth
    1 or 2 potatoes
    5 scallions
    1 tsp seasoned salt
Chop up the onion and garlic in the processor. Then saute in a little veggie oil in a big stock pot. Chop the celery in the processor (to your desired size) add to the pot and saute for about 5 minutes on low. Then chop the carrots, and add to the mix with the veggie broth, and one big can worth of water. Let boil for 1 hour. Add the chopped potatoes and boil till they’re cooked. Add the scallions and salt, and turn the heat off. You can serve with rice or pasta

    Also:
    ‘creamed’ soups:
any veggies or fruit you like… I use:
1 butternut squash, cleaned and chopped
    3-4 carrots, chopped
    1 onion chopped
1-2 celery stalks, (or 1 celery root) chopped
Boil all the veggies in enough veggie broth to cover. Let cool. Add a few scoops of the cooked veggies to the blender, with a little broth. Process till smooth. YOu want it to be thicker than soup but thinner than pudding..something inbetween. Add more liquid to the veggies if you need to. Pour the puree into a pot and heat till warm. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Both are very yummy…the puree soup is especially good over crusty french bread…enjoy!

Coleslaw of any kind. Shredding the cabbage is a breeze.
    Pie crusts
Grated cheese as most food processors don’t slice cheese very well
Depending on size of the bowl: bread, dinner rolls, pizza dough
